Choosing a good mattress

It is important to choose a mattress that does not receive chemical treatments such as pesticides or insecticides (ban on anti-mite treatments).

Choose a mattress whose raw materials and processing are certified to be free of toxic fumes and volatile substances. The best known and most reliable certification is the Oeko-Tex certification.

To choose the best comfort for a mattress, there are 3 categories of mattresses: soft – firm – progressive.

Soft mattresses

They are particularly suitable for small and light people. In fact, a light person only “uses” the first few centimetres of a normal mattress, while a soft mattress provides optimum comfort.

On the other hand, a soft mattress puts a lot of strain on the spine of a person of normal weight. Turning around becomes difficult, the sleeper often wakes up with pain.

Firm mattresses

They are recommended for people with a high physique or people who do not like to sink into their mattresses.

But a firmly rated mattress will be quite tiring for a person of normal physique. It causes pressure points, especially in the shoulders and pelvis, which create a feeling of tiredness and sometimes back pain.

To make the right choice, simply lie down on a firm mattress, relax and try to reach into the hollow in the loins. If the hollow is large enough for the hand to pass through, it means that the mattress is too firm.

Progressive mattresses

These mattresses offer an initial feeling of soft comfort, but become firm as they sink in. They are suitable for most sleepers and offer an ideal level of comfort while protecting the sleeper’s back. They adapt to the morphology of the sleeper and do not create pressure points.

Mattress covers

A good mattress cover (ticking) must first be removable so that it can be washed in the washing machine. The best fabrics are those made of natural, milk-repellent and antibacterial materials without additional chemical treatment.

A cover with TencelĀ® provides a feeling of freshness in summer and warmth in winter. Soft and breathable, it allows good air circulation between the fibres and good moisture dissipation to limit excessive sweating.
